Review: L’Oreal Revitalift Triple Power Moisturizer; or, Why Did You Ruin A Perfectly Good Cream With Triethanolamine?

As you may have noticed from the title, I have some thoughts on this. Deep thoughts. SCIENCE-Y THOUGHTS. I know. You’re impressed. It’s okay. I’ll sign autographs later. *sips coffee*

This here cream is the L’Oreal Revitalift Triple Power Revitalizing Moisturizer, henceforth known as the L’Oreal Long Name Cream. I honestly think the easiest way to review this is to break it down a little bit, so here we go.

+ TONS of fatty alcohols
+ Smells nice – citrus-y, fresh
+ Thick, rich hand-feel
+ Lots of Hyaluronic Acid (2 different suspensions, even!)

+ Removed Methylisothiazolinone and replaced it with…triethanolamine? WHY. WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS??? IT IS FAR MORE TOXIC AND BEST ABSORBED DERMALLY?? THIS IS A PRODUCT YOU USE EVERY DAY??? W H Y
+ Broke me out in hives

If you’d like some more info on Triethanolamine, I’d suggest looking here (OSHA) and here (EWG). If you’d like to delve deeper, here’s the PubChem page – skip to section 12, “toxicity,” and look at studies which examined the bioaccumulative effects.

As you may notice, there are no lovely “before and after!” pictures. That is because of the aforementioned hives, which I confirmed by testing it on the backs of my hands after my face said helllll no. (And I got hives there too, so. IDK.)

So is this for you? Honestly, if it didn’t have triethanolamine? I’d say yes, give it a go if you can’t get AB creams easily. The ingredients aren’t as good, but they’re not BAD. Except…except for the triethanolamine. You do not want to put this chemical on your face every day, 2x a day. With some products, I’ll take the risk (like sheet masks!) but…yeah. Not something I want to soak my face in every day. Many thanks for the opportunity, but I’m going to have to pass on this one.

And just so you know: this product was provided for free by Influenster and L’Oreal for review purposes.
